If you’ve been driving around your neighborhood lately, you’ve probably noticed that carriage-style garage doors are enjoying a huge resurgence in popularity. They were ubiquitous in the 1940s and 1950s, but lost popularity at the turn of the millennium. The reason for that is that even though they’re very visually pleasing, the older types were hard to maintain. They were made of wood, and had to be scraped and re-painted every couple of years. In short, people who had carriage-style garage doors had to devote a great deal of effort to making sure they looked good. Who has time for that these days?
