5 Things To Do When Choosing a Garage Door Dealer

How to Choose a Garage Door Dealer

You might think it’s a simple process, and it can be. But, there are more than a few things you should do when searching for a garage door dealer.

You’re necessarily going to want to find a garage door dealer that has an incomparable reputation. That dealer should also be one that backs up its work with an ironclad warranty. But, how do you find that dealer? Here are the things you should do in your hunt:

1. read reviews and visit dealers?

By using a review website like Yelp or Angie’s List, you should be able to get a pretty accurate sense of a dealer’s reputation. Read what other customers have had to say about their experiences with the dealers you’re interested in. Did they get the level of service they needed? Did the dealer work around their budgets? Once you’ve narrowed your list down, go visit a few. Keep your eyes on the sales associates. Do they seem like they know what they’re doing? Are they friendly when you talk to them?

2. see how experienced the dealer is

Of course, the longer a business has been in operation, the more experienced it is. But, that’s not all there is to it, especially with garage door dealers.

For one, you want a dealer that understands the environmental conditions of your region. Your new garage doors will have to stand up to the elements, and you want to be sure that the dealer is prepared to offer solutions for that. When you’re talking to them about this, judge whether they’re trying to accommodate your needs or not. What about your budget?

Accreditation is important, too, and any experienced garage door dealer should have certification for just about everything it does. On the most basic level, though, a reputable garage door dealer should be certified by the International Door Association, and any manufacturer that it does business with. If the garage door dealer you’re considering sells GARAGA garage doors, for example, then they should be accredited as a Garaga Expert.

3. make sure dealer’s up to speed with codes and regulations

If the garage door dealer you hire doesn’t follow local building codes, then you’re opening yourself up to the potential for hefty fines from the town. So make sure the dealer you choose knows the building codes inside and out.

While you’re looking into this, also examine their safety certifications. You can feel free to ask to see their licenses. Doing so will ensure that when your garage doors are installed that they’re installed safely. For this reason, you might want to research the licenses and regulations for yourself.

4. check the dealer’s insurance

Like any other business, the dealer you select should be properly covering their business and employees with all of the necessary insurance. To verify that this is case, you can ask to see the dealer’s Certificate of Insurance. If they don’t have it, won’t show it to you, or act like you’ve made an unreasonable demand, then don’t do business with them. Instead, take your money somewhere else where it will be better spent.

5. find out if the dealer is going to stick around

When the dealer covers your new garage doors with a warranty, you want to make sure that they’ll be there to back that warranty up in the future. If they’re not, you’re going to be stuck paying for any repairs out of your own pocket.

To figure out if the dealer is going to stick around, talk to the employees. Ask them how business has been going and where they think its heading. With everything you’ve already learned about the dealer, this should give you a clear indication as to whether the dealer will be around to back up its warranty.
