Your Guide to Comparing Garage Door Dealers

Garaga dealers

Thinking about investing in a new garage door? Paying too much is a mistake, but so is paying too little.

It’s vital that you are able to shop around to find the right garage door system, at the right price, from the right garage door dealer. Not all dealers are created equal, though, so you’ll need to know how to compare your options. This can be challenging, particularly given the fact that most of us only buy garage doors once or twice in our lifetimes.

In a nutshell, you want to make sure that the price you pay is reasonable. Bear in mind that a price that seems very low in comparison to others you receive likely means that the garage door will be inferior, you’ll receive less in the way of support or expertise, and the opener system will likely be subpar. Ideally, you want to get a good deal, but still enjoy a garage door that lasts a long time.

Check Out the Company You’re Considering

One of the first things to consider is the company that you’ll be doing business with. While there are established, reputable garage door dealers out there, not all such companies are worth your time or money.

Important Tips

  • Ask for references.
  • Check out homes where the company has worked.
  • Get the information about how long they have been in business.
  • Check with other customers and ask about their experience.
  • Check to make sure that the garage door dealer you’re thinking about hiring is licensed to operate in your state.
  • Does the company belong to any industry associations?
  • Is the company insured?

Check Out the Level of Service

In addition to ensuring that the company you choose is licensed, insured, and follows a code of ethics, it is also important to make sure that you get the right level of service. You should receive quality support, installation and service, and you should be comfortable working with the company at every step along the way.

However, it can be challenging to really tell what the service quality you’ll receive might be like. Any company can claim to go above and beyond – that does not make it the truth. Judge this based on the company’s results for other clients. As mentioned above, you need to contact previous customers to find out what their experience was like. At the very least, you should read customer testimonials.

Another good way to vet a garage door dealer is to visit their location. Head down to their showroom and take a look around. Is the showroom neat and clean? Is the warehouse in good condition? If so, chances are good that the company is conscientious and thorough.

Take a look at the company’s service agreements. How long does it take for them to respond to service calls? Are they prompt and eager to serve, or do they make you wait for service? Do they have their own service vehicles? Does the company stock the most common replacement parts on their vehicles? Do they have their own licensed service technicians? Or do they outsource their work to other people?

These are just a few of the questions that you should answer before choosing to work with any particular garage door dealer.
