Before you start, make a sketch of the layout you ultimately want to have. Then, budget for it. You can visit DIY store websites to get an idea of what you’ll spend on things like materials, fixtures, appliances and the like. However, remember that if you have big plans for your space, your budget will increase. It could cost a few thousand dollars if you do the work on your own, or tens of thousands to outsource it to a professional.

At the top of the to-do list, you’ll want to list repainting the walls. You should also think about floor coverings. Epoxy is popular, but there are other options.
