10 Questions You Should Ask Before Renovating Your Garage

Don’t Skimp on the Garage Door If You Want to Protect Your Home

Renovating your garage can be costly and a strain on the nerves if you get the wrong contractor. So what are the right questions that you need to ask before you start your renovations? Today, we will cover the top 10 questions to ask your contractor.

10 questions to ask your contractor

1) Is the price you quoted me set?

Contractors may give you lip service and say what you want to hear, but when they get started hidden costs may come up. Make sure you get everything in writing, so there are no hidden charges.

2) What is your license number and insurance number?

Make sure the contractor is a professional by showing his license number and proving he has insurance.

3) What is your cleanup policy?

Make sure that your contractor takes all the excess waste with him when the job is complete.

4)  How is payment handled?

Payment schedules can be a touchy subject, but most contractors may ask for a percentage down and the rest upon completion. Contractors work to get a deadline completed, and this will give you a bit of leverage that they hit their deadline.

5)  How can we stay in touch?

Whether you need to ask the contractor a specific question or you need to contact them after hours, they should be able to provide you with a number they can be reached at.

6) What time will you start work?

This is an important question to address because of what time they will start and leave each day. You may or may not be able to be there because of work or something else.

7) How will you protect my garage?

This may be important if you have any items you don’t want to have damaged inside your garage, and may include getting sawdust on electronic items.

8) Do you have any concerns about the project?

Any time a renovation is done there is a little bit of mystery in the air. There might be a problem they run into that needs to be solved whether it’s an electrical issue or something else.

9) Do I need to get any permits?

Often, the city you live in will need you to get a permit to do work on your garage. The contractor may or may not know this. Make sure to ask if this is included in the cost.

10) When the job is finished, do I receive any guarantees or warranties?

According to “houzz.com”, it’s important to find out what “end-of-project paperwork” is included whether new plans, inspection reports, utility changes, warranties or other important documents may be included.
